I love it all: embroidery, canvaswork, quilting, crochet. So much to do, so little time.

The End of an Era

Yesterday I heard via the grapevine (Internet) that Prairie Schooler will be retiring at the end of this year.  Say it ain't so!  Their folky Americana designs are hugely popular with thousands of stitchers, including me.

Here is my first Prairie Schooler piece:

Booklet No. 4
The Bremen Town Musicians
Stitched in 1989

You don't look at it and think
"Oh, that's an '80's piece."
It's classic.
It's been hanging on one wall or another
all of these years,
and I love it just as much today
as I did then.
And that's saying something.

I'm selfishly sad that they are retiring,
but wish them a long and happy,
well-deserved retirement.
And I'm glad, too,
because I have enough PS charts in my stash
to provide me with years of stitching bliss.

What's your favorite PS chart?
Or can you pick just one?

Thanks for visiting!

I totally agree with you. They have been part of my stitching life since the late 80s. Picking one that I have stitched isn't an easy task; it would be like choosing your favorite child. I love your Bremen Town Musicians piece. It is classic. Enjoy your Sunday!

Oh, no! I just discovered them this year! Well, they deserve a retirement after so many years of designing charts. I love the Santa's 12 Days of Christmas series.

I was so sad to hear they are retiring, but 32 years of designing...wow!

I posted this on my FB page on Friday when I heard about it. So very, very sad....but well deserved for the designers. I very nearly own all of their charts. I was 13 when they started designing. I "found" them after college when I saw their annual Santa cards. That sealed their place in my heart for the next 25 years. I've stitched and finished a lot of things by Prairie a Schooler, sadly missed, forever in my heart.

It's so sad . . . I'm in mourning!

I am also in mourning! I so loved their designs--especially the Santas and their early ones. But, I, like you, have so, so many PS charts just waiting patiently in my stash for the day I retire and can stitch more :)

A lovely design of theirs that started you off enjoying their work.

I agree, I'm sad to hear of their retirement. I've stitched a lot of their designs. Of course I still have charts in my stash that I haven't stitched....ahem... But it still makes me sad to see them say goodbye.

Love your first PS design. I must admit that I haven't stitched many of theirs. A few ornaments and the pinkeeps from Gift of Stitching. I'm sad to hear they are retiring though as they do have a lot of fantastic designs.

When I started cross stitching one of their charts was one of my very first purchases. Anf I have been collecting their designs since then. And no, I don't have a favourite - although I love their classic designs best.
